Schengen border checks are sticking around into 2027

Germany extended internal border controls from 16 Sept 2026 to 15 March 2027
Poland's checks run from 2 Oct 2026 to 30 March 2027, and Austria has extended too
Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden have shorter extensions
Always carry your passport or ID card and leave extra time at land borders
